MPR121 Capacitive Touch Sensor Controller – I2C Interface, 12-Channel Input
The MPR121 is an advanced capacitive touch sensor controller designed for seamless integration with microcontrollers and microprocessors via the I2C interface. It can manage up to 12 individual capacitive touch electrodes, along with a simulated 13th electrode, allowing for a wide range of touch-based input applications.
In addition to sensing, the MPR121 features eight configurable LED-driving pins, which can be used to control LEDs when not assigned as touch electrodes—ideal for interactive visual feedback systems.
This breakout board includes four configuration jumpers on the underside:
One jumper connects the ADD pin to ground, setting the default I2C address to 0x5A.
The remaining jumpers link SDA, SCL, and INT pins to onboard 10k pull-up resistors.
If you wish to change the I2C address or remove the pull-ups, simply cut the corresponding jumper traces before making your changes.
Key Features:
Capacitive touch sensor controller using I2C communication
Supports 12 touch inputs + 1 simulated electrode
8 LED driver pins (configurable when not used as electrodes)
Onboard jumpers for I2C address and pull-up resistor configuration
Default I2C address: 0x5A (can be changed by modifying ADD jumper)
Compatible with Arduino, Raspberry Pi, and other I2C-enabled boards
Applications:
Touch-sensitive interfaces
DIY capacitive keyboards
Interactive art installations
LED touch panels
Embedded systems with touch input needs
